The endowment was formed in 1996 by a group of Bergenfield High School alumni in order to create a committed source of financial support for Bergenfield educational activities. Although the endowment supports charitable activities outside of Bergenfield, its focus is on local extracurricular and educational groups.

The endowment offers grants to education, sports, and social interest groups. The fund was incorporated as a not-for-profit, 501.c.3, charitable organization. Such a designation allows the endowment to both receive contributions which are tax-deductible to the giver and operate without paying federal or state tax. The development of the endowment will lead to richer and more sophisticated student programs.
